Niagara has reached an important milestone in its ongoing work to connect more residents with primary care.
Ontario’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Sylvia Jones, recently congratulated the NOHT-ÉSON and its partners for successfully clearing Niagara’s January 1, 2025 Health Care Connect waitlist.
The achievement reflects a significant collaborative effort involving the NOHT-ÉSON, the Niagara Practitioners’ Healthcare Alliance (NPHA) as Niagara’s Primary Care Network, system navigators, family doctors, nurse practitioners, primary care teams, the Niagara Region, and other health-system partners working together to improve access to primary care across Niagara.
In her August 27 letter, Minister Jones recognized the dedication, collaboration and innovation behind the achievement and highlighted the important role Ontario Health Teams and Primary Care Networks can play when they work alongside local providers, communities and patients.
The milestone is particularly significant because it represents real progress for Niagara residents who have been waiting to connect with a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
And the work continues.
People who joined the Health Care Connect list after January 1, 2025 are also now close to being cleared, bringing Niagara even closer to the goal of connecting everyone who wants and needs ongoing primary care.
